The Thick, Juicy ...

Arcobaleno’s dining room is simply yet elegantly done. With the afternoon sun sparkling outside, it exudes a sense of summer peace that may be getting a bit of a jolt with the full completion of the Mekanisa road it sits on as well as the Big Dig at Pushkin Square further up. There is also a small bar adjacent to the dining room if you’re in the mood for a more casual experience.
The Great Ethiopian Run
December 06, 2009Addis Jornal
It was a sunny and scorching day. Yet more than 33, 000 runners wearing green colored T-shirts flooded the streets of Addis yesterday, Sunday, 22 November 2009.The ninth edition of Ethiopia’s international 10 kilometers road race was exciting to watch. As usual runners, joggers and a few walkers took some of the city’s well-known landmarks such as the National Theatre, the National Palace and the Addis Ababa Hilton and Meskel square. For many, it was running with a friend- with lively talks, mutual support and time flying practically unnoticed. Here are some shots
A covered basket on a stand that we traditionally use as dinner tables. i don't see my self using it for that, coz i live with my family and i don't have the voice - to be honest it will look ridiculous, but I thought it would be a fun thing for my room, used as a night-stand or maybe even a table. I just wanted something New, I was getting bored out of my skull with the look of my room.. well, i got my first Mesob for 350 birr, tell me I'm crazy. I didn't have a big plan for it but at the moment i am using it as a computer table in my room. when was the last time you tried something weird?
Biking with Ethiopians
August 26, 2009 Ferenge
On Sunday mornings, I head out on my own to ride my bike. If I get out early, traffic is fairly light. After a hectic work week I don't mind the solitude. I can make it up the "shallow" side of Entoto with the gears on my road bike, and being a roadie at heart, I frequently do that. Last Sunday when I was getting ready to make my right turn on Churchill Road and head up through the Piazza section of downtown, I spied four riders ahead. I could tell by their technique that they weren't the transportation riders that I usually see. I pushed a little bit and when they got slowed down by a light for a few seconds I managed to catch. As I pulled alongside I could tell I was right: they had on real bike shorts, two had jerseys, and one even had bike shoes and a helmet of sorts. They were riding mountain bikes with slick tires. They were riding a little bit faster than I might have by myself, but I was happy to have the company of other riders so made the effort.
All that Ethio-Jazz...
August 26, 2009 Hmarketwala
That night, the other "cozies" and I decided to venture out for some live Ethio-Jazz at a popular haunt called The Coffee House. Despite what the name suggested, the place was kickin' to the tunes of Astatke, Coltrane, Davis, and Brubeck. Ironically, the only thing notably absent was the coffee. There was a mix of locals and expats and the energy was high. The live set started promptly at 10pm and the quartet free-styled for a full 45 minutes before taking a break. I was completely enthralled! They continued well into the night, interrupting the music with witty repartee. At least I think it was witty, it was mostly in Amharic; I just laughed along like a tool.
